In the Warsaw Ghetto, children frequently risked their lives to smuggle food to feed their families, crawling through barbed wire or squeezing through holes in ghetto walls under the eyes of the German authorities. This song was inspired by Mendel Grossman's photograph of a young boy serving soup to his sister in the Łódź Ghetto.

Heated up, watered down
Barely fit to eat

Brother does the foraging
To feed the four of them
He’s only nine yet hopes to find

To break the daily fast

On freezing Warsaw Ghetto days
